Community Outreach
The St. Albert Photography Club supports a number of community partners in the St. Albert community. In turn, they help support our passion for our photography, by allowing us to capture images of various events throughout the year. Here are some of the organizations we support.
St. Albert Sturgeon Hospice Association (SASHA)
Lighting the Way is an annual event held in November to bring light to the residents of Foyer Lacombe as the surrounding trees atop Mission Hill are lit up. St. Albert Photography Club members will photograph these trees for posterity and for SASHA to use in their .
These trees are lit in honour or remembrance of those who have died, those who are ill and their caregivers, as well as to support compassion and palliative care in our communities.
Some of our members, by request, will also capture photographs of families and residents so they have memories to cherish.
St. Albert Readers Festival (STARFest)
Every autumn, the St. Albert Public Library produces STARFest – the award-winning St. Albert Readers Festival, bringing readers and world-class writers together for engaging conversations.
STARFest features an exciting slate of the award-winning, best-selling authors and fresh new literary voices that are inspiring national conversations. We pair them with skilled hosts and interviewers – authors and local personalities – to create lively conversations and unforgettable events.
St. Albert Photography Club members are challenged to capture portrait shots of the authors for their own use, and to capture the interactions during the conversations between the interviewer and author. The best images are then shared with the authors and STARFest organizers for their own use or for future advertising. This is all free of charge as we give back to the community.
St. Albert Seniors Association
If you have ever entered Red Willow Place, home of the St. Albert Seniors Association, you will find the lobby and backrooms adorned with framed photographs for sale.
All of these photographs are taken by members of the St. Albert Photography Club. Many of our members love to print their work and are happy to share their amazing art with everyone. Not only are they a joy for visitors and staff of the centre, but they are also a fundraising opportunity for the Seniors Association; a significant portion of all sales goes directly to the St. Albert Seniors Association.
